Wednesday’s Weekly Reader: Week 2+3

On 17, Mar 2010 | No Comments | In Design Life, Inspiration | By Lorraine

Unfortunately, last week I wasn’t able to post my Weekly Reader, so this week is Double Stuffed. Following the theme of the month, DIY and craft inspiration (brought to you by National Craft Month), this week’s Reader focuses on local Chicago talent. First up is the incredibly inspiring Art School Girl, followed closely by this week’s feature: The (very talented) Spotted Fawn.

I absolutely adore Amy’s stationary line. A combination of illustration, printmaking and collage, I was at first appalled that she cuts up vintage books to make her creations. (sacrilege!) But then she assured me that most of the books she uses are on their death bed anyways…besides, I found some awesome envelopes featuring The Little Mailman of Bayberry Lane: my fav as a kid! Amy’s currently moving to Connecticut, so her shop is down until April, but be sure to check it out in a couple of weeks.

Rachel and I met during Camp Firebelly this year and both moved to Chicago around the same time. Naturally, we became crafting buddies, and I am thrilled to see her finally open her etsy shop. For someone who claims to be “just learning” how to crochet, she makes some pretty amazing accessories. I’ll post my tribute to her work later this week, but for now, marvel at this chain-link necklace-scarf.
