Wednesday’s Weekly Reader: Tangled Teaser

This Friday, the third (and final?) Toy Story premiers, and I’m super excited. I can still remember the moment I saw the first one in the theater on a school field trip. The movie seemed so 3D, I felt like my eyeballs were popping out by the end of it. Over the past 10 years, we’ve seen a rise in CGI animated films with a decline in hand-drawn/2D. Personally, I’m very attached to 2D animation and hope to see more of it…but more importantly, I want to see quality story-telling. In my opinion, Pixar has, by far, surpassed any of the other Hollywood animation studios…not because of their technology (although admittedly, I do love their art direction), but because of their story-telling ability.
That said, I’ve been anxiously awaiting Disney’s Rapunzel film due out later this year. Since I last posted on it, the film’s name has been changed to Tangled, and although I had heard that Kristen Chenoweth was tapped to play a role, it seems that role has since been filled by Mandy Moore. This past week, Disney released the teaser trailer below. Right now it’s looking really cute, if not necessarily the experimental melding of 2D and 3D I had high hopes for.
