As you can see, I have finally redirected the portfolio site to here, so this blog is officially live! I’ll now start work on redesigning the portfolio site in hopes that I can get something back up over the summer. As promised, the first official post will now commence:
Recently, I was able to work on a press kit for Hallmark announcing their new line of Adhesive Gift Wrap. I absolutely love it when Hallmark projects come up at work…especially since their building mocks me every time I look out my window. Adhesive gift wrap is Hallmark’s latest invention, and we really wanted to have members of the media to play around with it instead of just reading the press release. So Jen and I designed the press kit to be a fun introduction to the new product:
We really wanted the gift wrap to be the main attraction, so small samples of coordinating wrapping paper designs were included so the recipient could try the product out. These sat on top of the press release which was fully covered (coated?) by the gift wrap. Members of the media were encouraged to “Peel to Reveal” the press release by a handy little sticker. The whole kit was then housed in a crafty, little tote that could be reused to store wrapping supplies. (Sustainability! YES!) Both the tote band and the samples band, as well as the sticker, featured intricate line work created by cut-here-lines and little scissors motifs. Cute and crafty! We saved budget by assembling the kits in-house, so the best part was getting to keep the leftover paper scraps from cutting out the samples. (My area has since been decorated with a bunch of little robots.) But, boy! was assembly ever a Feat:

The design area looked like a factory by the end of it.

OMG! This sounds like such a fun project! So what’s it like? Do you recommend it? I won’t be able to try it for a while, but it sounds pretty cool…

It was really a blast getting to work on it! I just wrapped my mother’s day present using some of the striped adhesive wrap. It works ok: just takes getting some use to. The best part about it is just using it to cover other things: so far I’ve wrapped my stapler and exacto knife, decorated my wall, and seen someone cover their bulletin board. We showed it to the German interns who visited us and it reminded them of the German contact paper brand D-C-Fix. Since you’re over there, look for it and tell me what you think! It sounds fun to decorate with.
