Wednesday’s Weekly Reader: Best of the Best

January 7th, 2009 · 5 Comments

It seems like everyone is doing lists these days, so not to be out-done, here's a list of my favorite lists! (a bit of a cop-out, I know...but they had to be shared.)

  • The Design Cubicle's 50 Brilliant Design Articles of 2008
  • TypeOff's Twelve Memorable Type Occurences of 2008
  • Art Vinyl's Best Vinyl Cover Art of 2008 (was glad to see Coldplay and Death Cab make the list, which I blogged about here and here; I've also been strangely drawn to Metallica's new album and it gave me a whole list of new music to try)
  • Speaking of music, Linden just blogged her 10 Songs of 2008
  • Noupe just posted 20 iPhone Apps for Bloggers, Designers & Freelancers although I'm not sure I agree that these are geared specifically towards the above three groups of people as I think most everyone would enjoy them...
  • ...and if they Were posting for the above three people, they should have definitely included Brushes. Check out the sketches done with it (among other works) by Disney artist, Stef Kardos at his flickr page:

The app is on sale right now, so I went ahead and purchased it...my first paid-app, by the way. A great way to get back into the sketchbook habit this year...

Your first paid app?! I am amazed at your restraint. How long have you had your iTouch? I’m at 16 days (Thank you, DC Free app), and I’ve bought several apps already (and you know I’m going to be blogging about them!). There are tons of free apps out there, so I can definitely see how someone could go for a while without buying, but not even the full version of your favorite game? Not even one teensy $0.99 app? :)

P.S. I’m with you on Noupe’s post. It doesn’t really seem aimed at that demographic.

Well, it get’s better…after 5 years of having an iPod, I finally bought my first full album without a giftcard, freebie, etc.

So far the free apps I’ve come across have been great, so I haven’t really needed to…I imagine if I had the iPhone that I would have ponied up a long time ago though…wish the iTouch had that camera!

I am so with you on the camera. I wouldn’t actually use it for real photographs, but there are so manhy apps that make great use of the built-in cameraYou know, the next gen is probably going to have one. Ha.

Geez! I made so many typos! I’m not doing a good job on the new year’s resolution… Watching TV and Interneting at the same time.
